Earlier this semester a friend and I had a small battle of wits. The subject Come to the Dark/Light side. Now I am no Star Wars fanatic neither is my friend. In fact, there were very few Star Wars references made. Instead it we tried to convince each other to hypothetically switch majors. I am a Ministry major, my friend is a Bible major. At Huntington we are in different departments that many major in one and minor in the other. Still it came to be that the Ministry Department became the light side and the Bible became the Dark side.
Come the Dark side we have *insert Bible professor here*
Come to the Light side we have *insert Ministry professor here*
Come to the Dark side we have *insert early church leader here*
and the conversation kept going until …
Come to the Light side we have Stained Glass Windows
and ended with…
Come to the Dark side. We have cookies.
I was laughing so hard I couldn’t defeat that.
While both of us were having fun trying to out do the other, all the while our other friends were cracking up laughing.
This is good. Now I realize that some of the comments made may not have had the best theology behind them. for instance The Ministry would not exist were it not for the Bible and vice avers.
Still we are called to be light in a dark world. A city on a hill for all to see. The Bible becomes the foundation on how the church operates on a daily basis. A church should be preaching out of Bible every opportunity they can get. Not shoving it down people’s throats, but teaching what it says in a way that others can understand it.
In the reality that is our world today, there is indeed a dark side. Contrary to what the title of this post we do not want to be a part of it. This side is Satan. He will give every excuse to win you to his side. And no he doesn’t have cookies.
So come to the light side we have JESUS!!!!
