As a kid, my brothers and I loved to watch Power Rangers. My favorite was Operation Overdrive. In this season not only did the rangers morph, but were genetically altered by a computer to have superhuman abilities. These included invisibility, super strength, speed, super high jumping, and enhanced vision and sight. However after a few episodes you quickly forget about them until an episode comes up where the Rangers lose the ability to morph and must rely on others and their superhuman power.

Now none of us have superhuman powers. At least not that I know of. But we have been given gifts and abilities straight from God himself. They’re called Spiritual gifts and talents. They come in many forms from singing to tongues to teaching. Paul writes about these in 1 Corinthians 12:1-11.

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware.  You know that when you were pagans, you were led astray to the mute idols, however you were led.  Therefore I make known to you that no one speaking by the Spirit of God says, “Jesus is accursed “; and no one can say, “Jesus is Lord,” except by the Holy Spirit.  Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit.  And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord.  There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons.  But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.  For to one is given the word of wisdom through the Spirit, and to another the word of knowledge according to the same Spirit;  to another faith by the same Spirit, and to another gifts of healing by the one Spirit,  and to another the effecting of miracles , and to another prophecy, and to another the distinguishing of spirits, to another various kinds of tongues, and to another the interpretation of tongues.  But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually just as He wills.

Like the Rangers, we sometimes forget what we have until we absolutely need it. The gifts and talents are always there if we use them, however, you will lose you gifts and abilities if you fail to use them. Likewise we are to be using our gifts to further the kingdom of God. In doing so, we, like the Power Rangers, can be victorious over the powers of evil.

How are you using your God given spiritual gifts and talents?
